highest uptime on the inhouse linux servers: 427 days
current load on this primary mail server: .26
average number of smtp sessions handled per day, ~150,000
average number of ftp sessions per day, ~5,000
average number of pop3 sessions per day, ~50,000
highest number of mails [noticed] in the queue before installing spam
filters: 370,000
linux 2.0.30 +patches, intel p150, 96megs of ram.
i could go on and on about this machine with the other services on it and
whatnot, but ...i think the point is clear. linux is enterprise worthy
for corporate usage. i think the above can label it 'tried and true'
soon we'll have to add 498 days to the uptime counter to get the real
number of days it's been up ;)
the hardware in this machine is archaic and cheap. it's made from cheap
scsi and ide. still, it toils faithfully to our bidding.
