A coworker and I have 100% identical hardware (except NICs) in our
workstations and yet my AWE64 "just worked" under RH 5.1 (using the
kernel's SB16 driver as a module) and his didn't. It turned out, his RH
5.1 was really RH 5.1y, and mine was RH 5.1x (x<y...we installed from
different age 5.1 CD sets) and the difference was his system (I think in
rc.sysinit) was trying to deal with plugNplay settings, and mine lacked
those "improvements". Commenting out the lines that dealt with plugNplay
on his system allow his SB64AWE to work using the SB16 driver.
