this is not likley, since at the least, IO and inter-processor interrupts
will be different from the Intel-proprietary (IO-APIC, etc)
that Linux uses now. I wouldn't guess this will be a big deal,
but it's definitely a little new code.

huh? you can write 3dnow code already (HJ released a binutils that even
assembles the opcodes!). in any case, 3dnow patches for Mesa already exist,
and does make a difference.
