A stepping is like a version of the chip. If you buy an assembled SMP system
from a computer store, you do not need to worry. The processors in the system
will be matched. If you want to assemble the systems yourself, you should
request matched CPUs. It should be no problem. For instance,  I've ordered two
pairs pf matched Deschutes CPUs from USA via the phone as an international
customer. People on the phone knew what I was talking about. The CPUs that
arrived have their SN different by one. (The CPUs should be matched for sure if
their are from the same batch).
