2.1.130preX is the latest development kernel -- and you want either it or 
2.1.125.  (126-9 had some issues that you'd probably want to avoid, although 
if you build with SMP it's probably safe).

Depends on what you're looking for, whether this is going to be "The Server" 
or merely your dev. machine.  IMHO, it's absolutely better... It'll be more 
work and may be a bit less stable in some cases, but it's worth it because 
the kernel can take better advantage of both processors and there are other 
improvements.
