Hi,
I've been running smp kernel 2.0.36 on Red Hat 5.1
for several months, and it's been very stable. I
just upgraded to Red Hat 5.2, and I wanted to compile
a 2.1 or 2.2 smp kernel. I've also upgraded to the
current packages as specified in Changes. My system:
dual PII 3333
asus p2b-ds motherboard
256 mb ram
sound blaster awe 64
I've tried compiling smp 2.1.132 and 2.2.5. My
problem is that I can't get sound or pppd to work on
these kernels. For 2.0.36, I compiled the kernel
with 'make config' and selected sound blaster support
and entered in the i/o and irq within 'make config'.
I notice that in the 2.1.132 and 2.2.5 'make config',
there aren't specific prompts for sound blaster
support. So I tried to install sound with
'sndconfig', but it errors out saying that there's a
problem with modprobe. With pppd, when I try to dial
out with 'usernet', the modem just sits there and
doesn't dial. How can I get sound and pppd working
on the newest kernels? Thanks,
Hidong
