You have to recompile your modules to go from SMP to Non-SMP mode so I
doubt this is possible.

Check your BIOS and see if you can set your fans for the CPUs to kick on
at a certain temp.  I've got mine set to go at about 95 degrees F and
it's a settable temp.  

At that temp, mine do not kick on but very occasionally.  Of course,
I've got three other fans inside the machine as well <g>.
