I am considering the purchase of 2 to 4 LVD 9.1 gig drives. I was going
to pair this with a BT958D.

The key is long term stability and fast performance. This is a production
level server and 'bleeding edge' may not be the solution.

The server (albeit an older box) has dual PPro200s on riser cards in a MB
that can be upgraded to P-II 350 (66 MHz limit).

I would like to use a controller that would let me take advantage of the
LVD drives. Are there any that are known to be extremely solid with
Linux? I looked at the Extreme RAID controllers but they look like they
are about 1200 bucks. I don't need all the RAID features (I will be using
the md tools for striping purposes as an experiment) though.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Greg
