well "ass-u-me" that the BIOs is regixstering both CPU's
correctly now. Have you also looked at the stepping? When doing
DUAL SMP in Linux you really should buy both CPU's at the same
time.....

you modem with 2.2 is no longer on any cua device it will
prabably be on ttyS0 or ttyS1... mine is on ttyS2 but I put it
there...

have you tried 2.2.5 SMP first? maybe one of the patches did
not apply .. in some Linux distros, the kernel that they
distribute with the distro is not a "stock" kernel. RH does this
often, and Suse supplies both stock and there own. If you
patched a RH 2.2.5 kernel to 2.2.9 then chances are something
may have went wrong in the patches.....

yes.. UMP uses XT-PIC I beleive, where as SMP now has IO-APIC,
I have no idea what the difference is, but in SMP 2.2 the
interrupts are now shared.. you could try the noapic option at
lilo assuming that you are using lilo.... also make sure you
installed your modules, and system map, other wise kernels will
complain.
