Hi there!

I guess most of you followed the discussions about the spurious
benchmark test Mindcraft did and the results and the current
re-test.

Since everybody can see now the results of the re-test as "nice"
graphics on the ZDNet-Homepage ( see:
 http://www.pcweek.com/a/pcwt9906281/408285/ ) I dare asking:
"How could this happen?"

Everywhere I go, I find that Linux is performing better than NT
(not only better, but often more important: more stable),
and now these benchmarks claim that I can't trust my eyes any
longer...

What went wrong? - Or does Linux really have THAT huge problems
that were overlooked? - If there are REAL problems, will they be
fixed in the 2.2-Series, or does Joe User have to wait for 2.4
coming out?

Since 2.2 is in my eyes still a rather "new" release (not everybody
has jumped on it, yet [ Why not, guys? ;-) ] ), I'd prefer to have
this fixed as soon as possible. - Even yet to show only the NT community
HOW fast the Open Source Movement is really able to react on such
problems.

Or will you come up with a 2.4 which is only a 2.2 with these major
bugs fixed (after only, say 20-30 iterations, instead of the usual
130 or so)?

Just curious.

        Herbert

PS: Can anybody think of how Free/NetBSD would have done in this particular
benchmark?

"We have found solutions for all solvable problems. From now on there is
only the need for the NT-Hotline." A colleague about the closing of a Unix-HL
because too few users made calls (800 Users, 20 Calls a day).
