Chris,

I had installed Linux (2.2-15) using Smart Start 4.20 and selected "other" for the
operating system. I subsequently received Smart Start 4.23. I upgraded the Rompaq to
the version dated 3/2/99, but had not run system erase.

After I received your post, I checked the configuration in Smart Start. It shows the
operating system as Novell 3.x 4.x.(???) I don't know if this was the result of the
Rompaq update or not.

I ran system erase then selected unixware 7.1. The choices in 4.23 are unixware 7.0.1
and 7.1. I reinstalled my old kernel not the SMP build. One problem that I had not
mentioned in my original post was that X would take along time to load. This is fixed
now. I will recompile the SMP/686 kernel tonight an report the results.

All the best,

Stuart
