The 3Com 509 is indeed better but it is only 10Mbit; The 905 comes as
905A,905B and 905C; They are all dual speed (10/100) and the 905A is
best as it has the biggest buffer but it is not available any more.

I would recommend to use another brand such as the EtherExpress 10/100
or a NIC based on a DEC Tulip chipset (although I do not know which
Tulip chipset is best)

I am looking for a good comparison between all these NIC�s, especially
about the CPU load but I could not find any, so my statements are
somehow based on "rumours". Moreover here in Austria it is difficult to
purchase a NIC other than a 3Com and some other "cheap" brands, so I use
the 3Com905B for myself.
