Well, there's two main reasons I want to upgrade
motherboards: 1) I want AGP video. I'd LIKE to play games
under Linux (Q3, etc.) 2) My current dual-PPro setup is not
working as an SMP machine. Whenever I try to boot to SMP,
UNLESS I DISABLE APIC, it locks solid while scanning the
IDE bus. This happens with either the stock Mandrake 6.0
SMP kernel or a hand-compiled SMP kernel. No problems
running with a uni-processor kernel. Besides, I already
have the adapter boards!

No thanks. I want SMP.

Well, If it's an Adaptec chipset, it's pretty good. I'm
getting what I think is good advice from a computer tech
friend who's also heavily into Linux.

I don't know Symbios or Tekram. I know Advansys and
Adaptec. I just want to make sure what I get is GOOD
hardware and a good SCSI card AIN'T CHEAP! I've got an
Advansys Ultra SCSI card, but I would like to get UW/U2W.

Because my tech friends haven't recommended Tekram, and
I've never heard of 'em.

Agreed!

I've got one. Nice Tulip based 10 mbit card. :-)

Yup. Along with AGP.
So, what motherboard(s) WOULD you recommend for SMP (slot1
boards, that is.)
