What O/S are you using? With the new versions of redhat (6.1) and
mandrake (7.0) on some machines during the install for some reason the
software does not detect all of the memory. Don't know why but the work
around is to add the following line to your /etc/lilo.conf file and run
/sbin/lilo:

append="mem=128M"

Always use double quotes in lilo.
Replace the 128 with however much memory that you have.
If you have other append options, separate them with commas
