what about SCSI? i bet windows want a driver for every SCSI CD-ROM
too. this seems to be symptomatic of windows.

it varies. my 12x 3-year old toshiba sounds like a jet airplane
warming up. my 40x plextor is fairly quiet in comparison. CDs just
weren't indended to spin all that fast.
speaking of fast spinning, i did a back-of-the-envelope about a 10k
rpm hard disk with a 3 inch diameter disk. the edge would be
travelling at 144 kph or 90 mph! how many Gs of acceleration is that
btw?
