your suggestion to boot with "noapic" resulted in a successful boot of
the 2.12.20smp.image
my dmesg reports 2 processors.
my /proc/cpuinfo also reports 2 processors.
i couldn't be happier :-)
it's obvious that i'm just starting into this 2 processor stuff, so i'll
just go on poking around for a while...one of my first interests is to
see how my ATI 128 alinonewonder card works with this kind of processing
power.
once again...i couldn't be happier.
