I've been in contact with SuperMicro regarding unknown IO-APIC problems, resulting in "kernel: unexpected IRQ vector 217 on CPU#0!" or on CPU#1, which is fatal 100% of the time. The problem occurs, and can be duplicated, during frequent mount/umount, or high i/o conditions. The problem occurs on all i840 chipset dual cpu SuperMicro boards: PIIIDR3 PIIIDME PIIIDM3 PIIIDM6 SuperMicro is not interested in helping in any way, and is apparently only interested in NT stability. These boards are not compatible with Linux, except using the "noapic" boot option, rendering the boards less functional. These boards need to be added to the IO-APIC blacklist. Thanks, D.
