Hello everybody.
I use linux-2.2.16 on a dual P-III 600MHz coppermine, 128MB RAM, SCSI
adaptec 2940U2W (connected to a DAT autoloader HP 40x6) and ctrl RAID DAC960
Mylex (connected to a three 9.1GB disks in RAID-5). The motherboard is a
Peak 6220 SBC compliant with Intel MPS1.1
I've installed a slackware 7.0 with a little trick : I've installed a RedHat
6.2 then I've made an "hot-change" with slackware (I've upgraded lilo and
fdisk) because default slackware's boot disks doesn't support boot from a
DAC960.
If I compile linux with SMP support, the machine, in some situations (high
load: seti@home running, tar on a tape with X running), hangs.
Not a kernel panic. I don't see nothing. Simply the machine stop all its
functions. No ping response, console monitor "freezed" on its last screen
(no matter if was text-only, X, blank screen), caps lock, num lock, scroll
lock don't light they respective led.
If I use the same kernel, with the same configuration "EXCEPT" smp support,
all works fine (to be honest I've saw that this problem still exist with
no-smp kernel, but it happen, eg., 1 time every 3 weeks, and not 10 times
every day).
I've attached my kernel config file (.config -> no smp ; .config.old -> smp)
Can someone help me?
Thank you
Paolo Borsa
