The drive will also work perfectly under Linux. Try writing a tar
archive and then restore that to a new location:
tar -cvf /dev/st0 /usr/bin
cd /tmp
tar -xvf /dev/st0
Now, compare the files in /tmp/usr/bin with /usr/bin.
As for HP's stand on Linux - this is changing. We are working hand in
hand with them to certify their drives and train their support groups to
properly support Linux. It's a BIG company, so things are progressing
slowly (but they are progressing ...). Please don't hold this one
instance against HP. They have a fine selection of tape drives and
we've seen no problems under Linux that haven't been resolved by fixing
improper SCSI setup (termination, cables) or by replacing marginal
media.
Also, just because Backup Exec didn't report any errors, doesn't
necessarily mean that there are no problems ...
