I tested this patch on kernel-2.6.0-test3 and this happens when I plug in the "CompUSA Optical USB Notebook Mouse".
hub 1-0:0: debounce: port 2: delay 100ms stable 4 status 0x301 hub 1-0:0: new USB device on port 2, assigned address 5 usb 1-2: illegal descriptors, for config #0 drivers/usb/core/message.c: error getting string descriptor 0 (error=-75)
Then it seems that all USB devices seize to function, including my Logitech USB keyboard. If I am not in X I am able to use my laptop's internal PS/2 keyboard to poweroff. If I am in X it freezes completely.
With no more messages from USB at all? That's quite odd, it shouldn't be acting that rudely. Does 2.4 do that too?
Any other suggestions?
Unless someone else has bright ideas, just return that hardware as defective. The illegal descriptors seem to be paired with other flaws.
