Dunno about thoughts, but I can confirm that if I disconnect my 
camera, I have to reboot before I can reconnect to /dev/camera, which 
is (ls -l /dev/camera)
lrwxrwxrwx    1 root   root      4 Dec  6  2002 /dev/camera -> sda1.  
Its a vfat filesystem over usb when connected.  So thats probably 
whats happening here too.  Kernel=2.4.22-rc2 atm.  Yeah, I know, 
thats getting jurrasic, I've been out of pocket for 2 months.
