Yes, the patch is in -test8. I just tried it myself, plugging and disconnecting a USB disk drive several times. It worked perfectly, showing up as /dev/sda each time.
Yes, I didn't test well enough with test8, and as such made a bit of a fool of myself on the SCSI list. Ah well, not the first time. All does work fine.
