I have tried using it under Windows 2000 and it works (it doesn't work under XP). It's freely available from http://www.wingmanteam.com/usbsnoopy/ Follow the directions to install it and capture the debugging output it produces when you plug in your drive. (If you need help figuring out the instructions, let me know.) Comparing that log to what Linux is doing ought to be very helpful.
