I see these multi-second delays in both your logs. But so far as I can tell there's nothing in the software to account for this sort of problem. Maybe it's something wrong with your hardware? You suggested that it only happened with one particular motherboard and another system worked okay. Does that mean you no longer think it's a result of something breaking between 2.4.21-pre5 and -pre6? Have you done any more detailed testing of the different kernels on the bad motherboard? It could just possibly be a flaky USB cable. You might try using a different cable to see if it changes anything.
