Ok. While they look scary, it seems that they don't cause me problems,
apart from spamming my logs.

The funny thing is that my psaux mouse didn't work, but unplugging the
drive and then plugging a USB mouse made me able to use X, but the other
mouse still continued dead.

I'm now back to using hotplug scripts and to avoid the problem above, I
just don't boot with the USB drive plugged.

Yes, thank you for your excellent detective work. :-) I'm now happy to
be able to use the drive under Linux to bring some files back and forth
to work.

Ok. I don't mind that. If it is not too difficult, I think that I can
use your patch to patch future kernels until it is included in the
official kernels.

Ok. If you make newer versions of the patch to check the status of the
internal hub, I am willing to be used as a guinea pig.

Indeed I am. I've been trying to use it since I bought it in July 5th of
the past year. :-) You can't imagine how happy I am right now, regarding
the drive.
