Hello all, I'm experiencing a little difficulty with a Canon Lide30 usb scanner. It works flawlessly with libusb and kernels up through 2.6.10 and 2.6.10-ac12, but...
Beginning with 2.6.11-rc1, and up to and including 2.6.11-rc5, the scanner can't be found with scanimage -L. although it is attached, and can be identified by sane-find-scanner and of course appears in /proc/bus/usb/devices. Perhaps it's something to do with USB I/O -- enabling sane's Plustek backend debugging reveals the following: <snip much debugging output> [plustek] usbDev_open(auto,) - 0x80765e8 [plustek] Vendor ID=0x04A9, Product ID=0x220E [plustek] usbio_DetectLM983x [plustek] UIO error [plustek] This is not a LM9831 or LM9832 chip based scanner. [plustek] open failed: -1 [plustek] sane_get_devices (0xbfffe928, 0) scanimage: no SANE devices found [plustek] sane_exit It looks like it's correctly identifying the scanner device -- the IDs and backend choice are correct -- but can't communicate with the scanner to identify its chipset and so errors out. With 2.6.10 the open succeeds, the scanner gets initialized, and so on. All the other USB devices on the system seem to work just fine. I hasten to add that to the best of my ability I've built the kernels with the same .config file which produces successful scanner operation in 2.6.10 [make mrproper; cp ../linux-2.6.10/.config .; make oldconfig] and that I gathered this data as root, so this is apparently not a permissions issue. Apologies if this has already been addressed or I've otherwise been stupid but as 2.6.11-rc5 shows this behavior I figured I'd best mention it before 2.6.11 arrives. Happy to test patches or provide more data.
