You didn't do what I asked in regard to the dmesg log.  To repeat the 
instructions, this time with a small addition:

        Before turning on the scanner, run "dmesg -c >/dev/null".
        Also start the "cat" process for usbmon.

        Turn on the scanner, and then a minute or so later do
        "lsusb -v".

        After lsusb finishes, run dmesg and post a copy of its output,
        along with the output from usbmon.

The dmesg files you included didn't contain anything of interest.  But the 
usbmon output did include a hint of a problem.  It's hard to tell at this 
point, I'll need to see the additional results from running lsusb.
