I have a Philips PSC805 external audio device. It is powered via USB.
This device used to work plugged directly into my desktop. Now it is
coming up, initializing, and then shutting down once user space
starts. This happens about 90% of the time but not always.

If I move the device to a powered hub either 1.0 or 2.0 it always
works and doesn't have a power problem. In the attached lsusb it is
plugged into the 2.0 hub.

This seems to me to be a problem with power management. Maybe the
device is going into power saving mode when plugged directly into the
desktop. How do you debug something like this?
