Yes, those two approaches are surely completely compatible, wrt the user interface at least : I was suggesting ways to turn off the devices and you are suggesting ways to turn then back on :-) Probably one of the difficult point is to decide which behavior is configurable and what should be fixed in the kernel (to avoid too much cluttering and configuration bits).
