Hello all, Thank you Jean-Luc and Karl Heinz Kremer for responding to my questions. I carried out what Jean-Luc suggested and managed to get the scanner working fine with Red Hat 7.0's default kernel - 2.2.16-22. I now use xscanimage with GIMP to scan my images satisfactorily, although I still think my original photographs are a mite sharper. :-) However, I do have a problem with timeout with my transparency adapter. It takes ages for the light to switch on, during which the scan occurs anyway and a picture is taken of the underside of my scanner instead! I was wondering if I could modify my scanner.h file to lengthen the timeout and then somehow recompile the scanner module only (how can I do this?), obtain a scanner.o file and then manually copy that to /lib/modules/2.2.16-22/usb/, overwriting the original scanner.o file? Will that work? How do I go about doing this exactly? Someone kindly tell me if I am being stupid. :-) Thanks a lot.
