This is a classic symptom of not having the correct driver loaded.

The HP8200e (and presumably your F model) needs a special driver. I don't know
if was fully incorporated in 2.4.5, and recommend that you upgrade to a later
kernel. You need to turn the special 8200E option under the mass storage
driver. Then all should be well.
