I have had success with a PNY CompactFlash reader on Mandrake Linux 8.1, but
there are a couple of caveats that might be a clue for others having
problems. The USB system recognizes the device as a CF Shuttle on /dev/sda,
but when I insert the card it won't recognize it, even if I unplug from USB
and replug. But if I reboot the computer with the card inserted the USB
system recognizes the device as a Sun drive (note the device difference -
it's the manufacturer name embedded in the flash card) and loads the storage
driver on /dev/sda with the mount point as sda1, then it works perfectly. I
wonder if there is perhaps a problem in Mandrake 8.1 because it won't
recognize my IDE ZIP drive unless the system is booted with a disk inserted.
I set up the fstab file as I had before with RedHat 7.1 and earlier versions.
Does this give anyone clues? Hope this helps perhaps with other devices.
