I am having problems using my USB keyboard and USB mouse with RedHat 7.2 and an IOGear
USB KVM switch. The RedHat installation detects everything and installs the devices,
however the keyboard and mouse simply won't work. If I plug them directly into the PC
(avoiding the KVM), they work perfectly in Linux.
Both the KB and Mouse also work perfectly with the rest of my PCs running a mixture of
DOS, Windows XP, and Windows 2000. Strangely enough, they keyboard works during the
GRUB boot menu, however once I select a KERNEL to run, it stops working. I can also
use the USB KB and Mouse (through the KVM) in DOS without loading any drivers.
I have contacted IOGear Tech Support and they confirm that my KVM should work with
linux, however they also have reports of it no longer working in later Linux kernel
builds. Here is what they told me (in email):
"The problem lies within Linux and the way it listens to emulation it seems when they
changed the version they also changed that feature unfortunately the only thing that I
can suggest is run a separate mouse and or keyboard to your Linux box."
I have searched Google and found others with the same problem, and others that don't
have any problems (with similar hardware and identical KVM switch).
I have been struggling to get this working for several weeks now; hopefully someone
here can be of some assistance. I don't mind fiddling with new drivers or settings if
it results in a working system!
I am including my system configuration and various log files for help. If anything
else is needed, let me know.
Thanks,
Tom
