o I've found the answer to my original question (see the "Subject:" line). It's "2.4.10" ... sort of.
o After much hacking, I've got: o 2.4.10 with my hacked version of se401.c version 0.23 "p1" o `modprobe se401` (did by hand before plugging Kensington) o `modprobe pwc` (hotplugging doesn't install when Philips plugged in) o `insmod -f pwcx-i386` (from usb-pwcx-8.2.tar.gz) o uhci (`rmmod usb-uhci ; modprobe uhci`) o This works. I'm not sure what in the order of operations (modules, hardware plugging) is important. I'll experiment booting with everything plugged in. o Remaining problems are that plugging in the Philips gives hundreds of errors like: kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout kernel: usbdevfs: USBDEVFS_CONTROL failed dev 5 rqt 128 rq 6 len 486 ret -110 o Also got some messages when starting to use the Philips from user software: freddy kernel: pwc Dumping frame 24. freddy kernel: pwc Dumping frame 25. ... freddy kernel: pwc Dumping frame 44. freddy kernel: pwc Dumping frame 45 (last message). o And, occasionally: kernel: usb_control/bulk_msg: timeout (I've *always* gotten these, and posted about it in the past.) o Where to go from here? If this system is stable, and the maintainers aren't interested, I'll stop now. I would like to help find out why 2.4.10 works and 2.4.19-pre10 doesn't, if only so the next packaged distro I buy (2.4.xxx or 2.6) works for me. o But I'm not going to do a binary search algorithm between approx. delta=10 kernel versions (at over an hour each to download/build/boot/test) unless I get an indication that someone's interested in the results. Or preferably some hints along the lines of "there were big changes to USB in 2.4.16, so try there first". o Suggestions (other than "Go to h***" or "F*** off") welcome. -- MARK [EMAIL PROTECTED] _______________________________________________________________ Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference August 25-28 in Las Vegas - http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm?source=osdntextlink _______________________________________________ [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe, use the last form field at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/linux-usb-users
