Hi Greg (and others) Thanks for the tip. Ok. I've upgraded the machine to the latest OS from RedHat (7.3 with kernal 2.4.18-3). I could mount the hard disk without any problem. Did the following
1. Fdisk and make the whole disk (80GB) a single partition /dev/hda1 2. mkfs -t ext3 /dev/hda1 3. Then mounted the drive with /dev/hda1 /mnt/usbhd1 ext3 defaults 1 2 Disk seems to work. But, first problem was that it appeared to be dead slow. And when I checked the dmesg: beyond end of device 08:01: rw=0, want=201336713, limit=78180291 Directory sread (sector 0x18004f12) failed attempt to access beyond end of device 08:01: rw=0, want=201336713, limit=78180291 Directory sread (sector 0x18004f12) failed So, now I know that things are not working properly! I need your help again to sort this problem out. Thanks in advance Assela PS: Full dmesg is attached. --- Greg KH <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> からのメッセージ: > On Thu, Sep 05, 2002 at 01:45:16PM +0900, Pathirana > Assela wrote: > > Linux version 2.4.7-10enterprise > > This is not Red Hat 7.3, or if it is, it's a very > old kernel.
