I have an USB-USB cable with a Prolific PL2301 chip in its middle. Up to
a certain point it works okay:
- The usbnet module loads into the kernel (Version 2.4.20)
- "ifconfig usb0 192.168.1.1 up" does not complain about anything
- I get a ping on both computers.
However, if I ping long enough ( about 15-30 times ) or I send large
files via netcat ( > 500kb ) the connection breaks
and the kernel reports:
Jan 5 18:14:34 erde kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: usb0: transmit timed out
Jan 5 18:15:14 erde last message repeated 4 times
In this state, the cable is only good for chatting between both
computers. As this is not the reason why I have bought
it, I would be glad to hear from you, if you have an idea how to repair
this.
Thanks,
Martin
