For a longer while I've been trying to connect an classic internal HDD to my linux laptop box via IDE2USB adaptor. With my custom 2.4.20 kernel I used to always get:
usb-storage: command_abort() called
when connecting the thing, but now with the newer common kernel (debian 2.4.20-3) I get a few steps further. When connecting I see SCSI emulation for usb-storage enabled in dmesg and:
> cat /proc/bus/usb/devices (...) > scsiadd -s or sg_scan -i give things like:
Attached devices: Host: scsi0 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: TEAC Model: DW-28E Rev: 2.1A Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02 Host: scsi1 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00 Vendor: Model: Rev: Type: <NULL> ANSI SCSI revision: ffffffff
The first one is my CDRW, correctly recognized and functioning via scsi emulation, the second one is the HDD, not mounting with sda1, sdb1 etc. (not a valid block device). note that my digital camera with 1GB flash card can be mounted this way.
relevant modules (sg, usbstorage, usb-uhci, sr_mod, scsi- whatever I am aware of) are loaded, otherwise the digital camera wouldnt be accesible I believe.

Is this something for this mailing list? If so - where do I start debugging? The device is in /proc/bus/usb but not in /proc/scsi. Is it the problem on the usb part or maybe scsi layer? If the latter - which list should I go to - I found a few scsi ones.
thanks and best regards, Dominik
