I've a Compaq Armada 1530 Pentium MMX laptop... access the webcam with any program, the computer stalls... I've tried the same configuration, even with the same modules (using kernel 2.6.3), on a Compaq E500 laptop and works fine, I can grab images.
You're in just-barely-charted territory. Please read the FAQ, and post the information requested. You might try earlier 2.6 kernels and a 2.4 kernel or two before getting back to us, to save time. Our time. :)
Of course I don't wanna waste your time!
I posted here because I made it work on the P3 and couldn't understand why, with the same kernel, I couldn't on the P1. I thought that ppl in this list, being more expert than me, could have a quick reply! :-P
I'll try Debian's 2.4.18, then I'll let you know.
