Kernel 2.4.18 with module usb-ohci works the same as 2.6.3: system
stalls, and comes back to life if I unplug the pcmcia.
(Note: I left vgrabbj try accessing the usb webcam for 5 minutes. Right
now the card is like a grill, I can make an egg on it!)



Maybe the card is struggling to supply enough current to the camera (a known problem with older laptops). Webcams have much higher current requirements than mice and keyboards in general.


Other users have reported that connecting a self-powered external hub between the laptop and the camera fixes this problem.
