The log you sent doesn't contain any errors like you used to get.  Does 
this mean that now you can go ahead and use the compiled-in module and 
everything will work perfectly?

The ub driver handles disk-type (i.e., not CD/DVD, tape, or other storage 
type) devices.  It essentially duplicates the function of usb-storage.
