Hello!

I recently got a Sony MZ-NH 900 Hi-MD walkman that can be used as a USB
storage device (and, in its primary function as a portable MiniDisc audio
player...).

It is possible to put data on it under Windows but unfortunately, the device
is recognized correctly as a usb-storage device but syslog tells me that
the device has no proper partition table.

$ cat /proc/bus/usb/devices says:

T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 4 Spd=12 MxCh= 0
D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS=64 #Cfgs= 1
P: Vendor=054c ProdID=0183 Rev= 1.00
S: Manufacturer=Sony
S: Product=Hi-MD
C:* #Ifs= 1 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=500mA
I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 2 Cls=08(stor.) Sub=05 Prot=50 Driver=usb-storage
E: Ad=81(I) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms
E: Ad=02(O) Atr=02(Bulk) MxPS= 64 Ivl=0ms

The syslog says:

The disk has been formatted using the "Format" function on the walkman. It is
no 1GB Hi-MD disk but a "normal" 74 minutes Minidisc formatted in Hi-MD mode
(doesn't make any difference except the size of course). But as 1GB media is
very hard to find at the moment I prefer to have music instead of data on
it :)

Has anyone already been able to get a Hi-MD device to work under UNIX/Linux?

I would appreciate any help and could provide more information if needed.

Regards,

Jean Pierre
