Hi Alan,

 Sorry for the late reply.

 OK. I've tried 2.6.13. The external caddy is a 5 1/4" so I swapped the H/D
for a DVD Writer. I've burned 5/6 DVD's on several different machines
successfully. I put it on the laptop (same wiring et al). If I put in a
pre-recorded CD, I can mount it and copy data from the CD with no trouble. I
compiled a CD .iso and attempted a "dummy" burn with cdrecord, It attempted
to write and hung. Tailing ...debug I find it hits the very same place as
before, same WRITE command and everything and just sits there for 30-40secs
and then it seems to kick itself and goes around again.. Stopping at the
same place each time.. The app (cdrecord) can't be CTRL-C'd at all.
Switching the external drive off is the only way to free the program.

I'd like to find out what it's doing during that 30-40secs when it sits
there.

Would it help if I installed 98SE on the box and ran a usbsnoop program on
it?

Thanks again,

Phil.

PS. Debug logs can be provided albeit same as before.
