first of all, thanks to Thomas and Randy for the replies.. 

I wouldn't mind getting my hands dirty getting USB midi support
started, but I was wondering if you could give me some pointers on
doing that.. first of all (and excuse my ignorance - this is my first
time dealing with usb programming and vendor support), for this kind
of thing would I have to contact Midiman for specs on how the unit
works? if so, do we have any experience with them? are they somewhat
willing? this will probably directly impact whether I purchase that
unit or not.. 

I've also seen a Roland USB box that look spretty comparable (although
the Midisport looks cooler) :)
