I had the line:

kern.* -/var/log/kern.log

so I assume this is sufficient?

No. That is the strange thing. When plugging in my MS mouse, I get
that type of information. But when plugging in this camera, the
console is silent, although a bunch of usb related stuff goes to
/var/log/kern.log, and I attached the latest -- I cleaned the kern.log
file, then attached the camera, and this is strictly stuff generated
by a single connect of the camera.

I have a jaz drive on sda4, I have tried sd[b..d][1-6] without
success. If you can tell from the output below which sd?? I should
use, let me know.

If you have other things I should try, please let me know. I will keep
poking around meanwhile.

Thanks!
