Actually these companies seem to be the ones that are more forthcoming
with their specs.

Both the Keyspan PDA and FTDI devices are single port usb to serial
converters and are supported by the latest kernel driver.

Unfortunately Belkin has been very unhelpful, as their devices seem to be
very popular (at least given the amount of email that I get asking about
support for them :)

Here is a list of the usb to serial devices currently supported by the
usb-serial driver:
  Keyspan PDA
  FTDI SIO
  ConnectTech WhiteHEAT
Digi Acceleport (patch just sent to the list)

And non usb to serial converters supported by the driver:
  HandSpring Visor
  ZyXEL omni.net LCD ISDN TA

(Inside Out Networks also have a Linux driver, but it is not open source
at this time)

Take a look at a list of currently available usb to serial converters
(one can be found at http://www.allusb.com/Products_Adapters_Serial.html
) and see that there are still a lot of devices that do not have support
on Linux. Feel free to contact these companies to try to get the
specifications needed to write a driver for them (Belkin, Paracom, and
eTek have all refused, so you might want to try the other companies.)

Also Miles Lott <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> has contacted a number of these
companies and gotten some responses. You might want to talk to him about
which ones are worth pursuing.

Hope this helps,
