I had similar problems--I ended up with two copies of the modules in
/lib/modules/2.2.15/misc AND in /lib/modules/2.2.15/usb. I removed
the duplicated modules and reran make modules_install while running
the 2.2.15 kernel. Something like that--it has been a while--maybe
that will help.
