Another question for Debian heads ... I have a somewhat damaged Debian machine - permissions are strangely odd all over the place. This can be traced back to a sysadmin, not a rootkit :-) Things like /dev/tty not being go+w oddly breaks many things ...
Anyway, in order to restore machine sanity, I was considering wipe/reinstall. But there might be a better way? I thought apt-get --reinstall might have been the way, but can't see how to get that to refresh existing packages ... Any hints? -jim
