Another question for Debian heads ...

I have a somewhat damaged Debian machine - permissions are strangely odd
all over the place. This can be traced back to a sysadmin, not a rootkit
:-) Things like /dev/tty not being go+w oddly breaks many things ...

Anyway, in order to restore machine sanity, I was considering
wipe/reinstall. But there might be a better way?

I thought apt-get --reinstall might have been the way, but can't see how
to get that to refresh existing packages ...

Any hints?

apt-get autoclean cd /var/cache/apt/archives dpkg -i *
