They also put in demand dialling. Pretty much all the additions are essential for a usable desktop setup. As it was a while ago and is all GPL, I would have thought it to have been generally taken up by everyone now. If not, download the pppd from ftp.suse.com and save yourself some trouble. Prob safer to get the source rpm and recompile.
