Yes, it is always FAT AFAIK. It has to be so Winders users can use it.

That's not what I said. Many photographers do use digital cameras for
purposes where they're suited (that's why I'd like one too). It's also
clear that even cheap 35mm SLR leave consumer digital for dead (at this
point). You don't know what the requirements of the photographer in
question are and therefore can't claim that his conclusions of digital
are unjustified.

What was the answer to whether the files from cards of non-usb-storage
cams can be read in card readers under Linux? (Assuming the card reader
itself goes.) Is there always a fat filesystem on it?
